More Upward Photos
We had never heard of Upward basketball and cheer camps until Centerpointe Church, a church plant here in DuPont, offered the camp (completely FREE of charge) at the DuPont Middle School this summer. It was completely amazing! The kids were all able to attend and had a fabulous time. They learned about basketball and cheerleading, but also had Bible studies and the gospel message was shared every day to many, many unchurched kids.
Mark and I were so amazed that not only was the camp free for the kids, but they also received a ton of free stuff. Abby received her cheer top, pom poms, a megaphone, a backpack, a basketball, a water bottle, and a duffle bag. The boys each received reversible basketball jerseys, water bottles, basketballs, and duffle bags. The camp also offered a free bbq meal on the last day of the camp for the kids and their families, and is also making a highlight DVD that they are hand-delivering to each home that had a child attend the camp.
What an amazing way to show Christ's love to our community! Going above and beyond what is expected, and asking nothing in return.

swimming lessons 2009... day 1
fishermen: uncle james and ethan
ethan has been asking his uncle james to teach him to fish for months now... and this weekend it happened... we went out to anderson island for a family get together and uncle james made time for lesson #1...
ethan hooked his line on his sweatshirt( a couple of times)... our friends let us borrow their canoe for fishing in the middle of the lake...

ethan learned to cast...
ethan learned that patience is required...( i think he thought the fish would immediately hook themselves to the tasty treat)
ethan learned that baiting a hook meant putting a LIVE worm on to a sharp hook...
but... at the end of the morning; which included thunder, lightning and rain... ethan reeled in his first(of many hopefully) rainbow trouts... 12.5 inches long... we think he was proud...

Beautiful
Once we got back from our little beach vacation with my parents, Abby and Grandma got busy on their project of sewing some new pillow cases for Abby's room. I don't sew (though I so wish I did), and my mom is an amazing seamstress, quilter, embroiderer (is that a word?), etc., etc., so I was thrilled that she was willing to give Abby a sewing lesson. Abby did so well, and her new pillow cases are beautiful. But even more beautiful are the memories that were made.
